Before you work at the CAB, training will be provided.
Contact the CAB on 5662 2111 to register your interest.
Our volunteers are the lifeblood of South Gippsland Citizens Advice Bureau and Tourism Information. Without them we would not exist.
No one gets paid, not even the Co-ordinator. People volunteer for various reasons.
Training
We have training sessions, usually twice per year. The training is a must to be able to work at CAB. Training is of 3 week duration one day a week. It is a fun time, getting to know your fellow trainees, gathering information and lunch is provided.
We are just nearing completion of the latest training course. There will be others as required
Community
Volunteering is a way of giving back to the community. Most people do one shift a week of 3 hours. Some do more according to different needs. Some volunteers have been here for many, many years; others only for a short time. Some move away, some have family committments, some decide it isn’t for them.
Technology
Modern technology is a big part of the CAB today. Computer knowledge is a must, as it is in almost all walks of life today, but don’t let that put you off should you be thinking the CAB might be for you.
There are lots of ‘Basic Computer’ courses available locally and people at the CAB that can help hone your skills. Almost everyone is on the Internet these days and using email. We are learning new skills daily, be it on the computer, or other things that are constantly changing in today’s world. All you need is a “can do” attitude.
More Information
You will find out more information on what we do at CAB if you check out other pages on our website, but an overview of what some of our volunteers do is, Tax Help, Charity Christmas Card sales, Looking up information on the Internet for clients, (finding phone numbers is often required), Referring clients to different agencies that can help with problems, to name a few.
Lots of times just a listening ear is required and a cuppa in private and the client goes away happy.
Local Events
We also keep abreast of local events. Many people come in and ask what is there to do in the area. We welcome being kept up to date by organisers of events so we in turn are able to let our clients and visitors know.
Community Information
We also have an extensive database of community information that is constantly being updated. Some volunteers are involved in that. So, as you can see, there are a variety of tasks that we do. Different people do different things.
Our Workplace
We have a lovely building to work in. Light, airy, spacious with a courtyard setting. Beaut to pop out and sit on a seat on a nice day and have your lunch. A great bunch of people to work with.
